Sharpt Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 14, 2026

Sharpt is a Chrome extension that refines, proofreads, summarizes and translates text, writes drafts from a short brief, turns speech into text and reads text from images. It works in Chrome's side panel and through a button in text boxes on web pages. It runs on an AI engine you choose: Google Gemini, using your own API key, or On-device AI, the model built into Chrome.

Data the extension handles

  • Text you type, paste or select, and images you choose for text extraction

  • Voice recordings, only while you are using the microphone button

  • When you use the writing assistant or a page button: the text in that box, plus the page's title and site name as context

  • The results the AI produces

  • Your settings, such as engine, model, voice, font and theme

  • Your Google Gemini API key, if you add one

  • Your recent history (up to 20 results)

How data is used and shared

Google Gemini. Only after you accept the notice in Settings, the text, image or voice recording you submit, together with the instructions needed to process it, is sent directly from your browser to Google's Gemini API and authenticated with your API key. Google handles it under the Gemini API Additional Terms of Service and the Google Privacy Policy. If you use Google's free (unpaid) tier, Google may use submitted content and responses to improve its products, and people may review it. Don't submit confidential or sensitive information you aren't comfortable sharing with Google.

On-device AI. Your text is processed by the model built into Chrome on your computer, and Sharpt does not send it anywhere. The first time you use it, Chrome downloads the model from Google; Chrome manages that download. Images, translation and mixed-language voice always use Google Gemini.

Voice input. With the "Mixed-language (Gemini)" voice engine, short recordings are sent to Google's Gemini API as described above. With the "Chrome speech" engine, Chrome's built-in speech recognition turns your speech into text; Chrome may send the audio to Google's speech service to do this. Sharpt does not keep recordings.

Buttons on web pages. Sharpt adds a small button to text boxes on websites (you can turn this off in Settings). It reads the text in a box only when you click one of its actions, then sends that text to your chosen engine.

Clipboard. The Paste buttons read your clipboard only when you click them.

The developer of Sharpt does not run a server and never receives your text, images, recordings, results or API key. The extension has no analytics or tracking. Your data is not sold, not used for advertising, not used to determine creditworthiness or for lending, and not transferred to anyone other than Google when you choose Google Gemini or Chrome speech as described above.

Sharpt's use of information complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Storage and retention

Settings, your API key and your history are stored on your device in the extension's storage. They stay there until you remove them with Clear All in History, Delete all data in Settings, or by uninstalling the extension. Like other browser data, your API key is stored unencrypted in your Chrome profile, so anyone who can use your computer account could read it.

Your choices

  • Create a Gemini API key just for Sharpt, and delete it in Google AI Studio if you stop using the extension.

  • Choose On-device AI to keep your text on your computer (English text, supported computers only).

  • Turn off the page button, or block the microphone, at any time.

  • Delete everything from Settings > Delete all data.

Children

Sharpt is not directed at children under 13.
